Ineltek UK, the UK and Ireland arm of Germany’s largest independent semiconductor distributor today announced the latest member of Atmel’s CryptoAuthentication™ product line, the ATECC508A. This is the first device to integrate ECDH (Elliptic Curve Diffie–Hellman) key agreement, which makes it easy to add confidentiality (encryption/decryption) to digital systems including Internet of Things (IoT) nodes used in home automation, industrial networking, accessory and consumable authentication, medical, mobile and other applications.
ATECC508A supports all three pillars of security – Confidentiality, Integrity and Authentication – the “CIA” of secure systems:
Confidentiality – Store confidential keys, secrets, certificates etc. on chip in the most secure form or storage: hardware
Integrity – Use ECDH key agreement with MPU/MCUs running AES via AES-CCM and AES-GCM mechanisms to confirm data integrity
Authentication – Validate code loaded at boot time easily using ATECC508A ECDSA (Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm) to ensure authenticity
ATECC508A is compatible with any processor including Atmel® | SMART and Atmel AVR® MCUs or MPUs, delivering extremely low-power consumption and requiring only a single GPIO over a wide voltage range. The part is available in 8-pad UFDN, 8-lead SOIC or 3-lead CONTACT packages, making it ideal for a variety of applications including those that require longer battery life and flexible form factors. It is in production now and Ineltek UK can provide samples and pricing on request.
