Using Coilcraft Design Tools, this presentation will demonstrate the feasibility of using a lower inductance solution compared to the theoretically calculated value in a buck converter design. It shall be shown that using a lower inductance value allows the buck converter to operate in higher ripple conditions with the respective losses discussed.
The aim is to find the best compromise with respect to efficiency, response time, stability and physical size using different inductor technologies. This will be demonstrated using different magnetic materials. The effects of ambient temperature will also be presented.
